use router as access point without cable

You can use a router as an Access Point via the Ethernet cable connection direct from a main router. When you want to set an Access Point without the Ethernet ca.ble, make sure your router supports the Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Consider the following procedure to use t router as an access point.

Main router:

  • STEP : 1 You need two routers, where one router is the main one and the other one acts as the access point (secondary).
  • STEP : 2 Note down the MAC address and IP address of both the routers.
  • STEP : 3 Connect the modem to the main router.Now, connect the main router and the computer via wired or wireless network connection.
  • STEP : 4 After connecting, open the web browser on the computer and enter the main router’s IP address to open the login page.
  • STEP : 5 Following that, type the  Username and  Password  to access the router’s configuration page.
  • STEP : 6 Navigate to the  Wireless Network Settings menu, find the  Wireless Repeater Mode  or  WDS  or  WDS bridging  option from the list of menus, and enable it.
  • STEP : 7 Search for the wireless base station menu and select it.
  • STEP : 8 After that, enter the MAC address of the secondary router in the  MAC address of Repeater or  MAC address of Access Point
  • STEP : 9 Save the settings on the main router.

Secondary router:

  • STEP : 1 Now, connect the modem to the secondary router and connect the router to the computer using two Ethernet cables.
  • STEP : 2 Open the router’s login page on the browser window by entering the  IP address of the secondary router and enter the login credential to open the router’s setup page.
  • STEP : 3 Go to the  Wireless settings menu and then turn on the  Wireless Repeater Mode .
  • STEP : 4 Disable the  DHCP settings and change the Wi-Fi network name & password as of the main router.
  • STEP : 5 Select the  Wi-Fi Repeater menu and set the  Repeater IP address  within the range of the main router’s IP address.
  • STEP : 6 In the  Base Station MAC Address field, enter the MAC address of the main router and proceed to save the network settings of the secondary router.
  • STEP : 7 After all the network settings are done, power on the main router and make sure the Wi-Fi network is turned on.
  • STEP : 8 Next, plug the secondary router in a proper location and turn it on.
  • STEP : 9 Now, the secondary router Wi-Fi network should work as an access point.
  • STEP : 10 If there is an issue, check the network connection and verify if the wireless settings are correct.
  • STEP : 11 Finally, reboot the routers.
