WPA is nothing but Wi-Fi Protected Access. It is an encryption standard used on wireless routers for securing all the wireless data transmission. WPA2 is the advanced enhanced version of WPA and is more secure. Both WPA and WPA2 have been developed to replace the WEP standard, which is obviously less secure. You can enable WPA or WPA2 on your wireless router as per your requirements. You can also change the encryption standard of your router from WPA to WPA2, and to do so, proceed with the quick steps given below how to change to WPA2 on router.

  • Step 1:On your computer, open the default browser and enter the IP address of your router in the address bar. Most of the routers use,, or as the IP address.
  • Step 2:Please refer to your router’s documentation if you find that the above IP addresses don’t work.
  • Step 3:Next, you have to log in to the router’s configuration utility. To do that, you will have to enter your username and password (you will see a prompt to do this).
  • Step 4:Now, please go to the initial menu of the configuration utility and then click on the Wi-Fi, Wireless, Wireless Setup, or the Wireless Settings option (or else there might be any other option that is named similar to these).
  • Step 5:You will now see that your wireless security options are displayed on the screen.
  • Step 6:Please go to the Security Options or the Security section of the current page and then choose WPA2. In case WPA or any other option is already selected, you have to change it to WPA2.
  • Step 7:Next, in the space provided, type a passphrase or the security key for your network. Then, click on the Apply or the Save button to enable the WPA2 encryption standard on your wireless router.
  • Step 8:Finally, to exit the configuration utility, click on the Log Out button.

We have now seen the steps on how to change to WPA2 on router.
