DNS Configuration On Router

The guided instructions given below explains how to configure DDNS on your wireless router using the No-IP DNS service. The DDNS configuration procedure for each wireless router may vary a little. But the overall procedure is the same.

  • Step 1:Open a web browser on your system.
  • Step 2:Navigate to your wireless router’s management page using the credentials.
  • Step 3:You can use the common credentials if you have not changed the default ones.
  • Step 4:You can find your wireless router’s common credentials on the sticker attached to the bottom of the router.
  • Step 5:After logging into your wireless router’s management page, locate and click the Dynamic DNS option.
  • Step 6:Now, the DDNS window will appear on the screen prompting you to select a service provider and its username & password.

For example,

  • Step 1:DDNS Provider- No-IP.
  • Step 2:Username- Your email address.
  • Step 3:Password- your email account's security key.
  • Step 4:Hostname or Domain name- hostname.ddns.net
  • Step 1:Choose the NO-IP.com option from the Select a provider drop-down menu.
  • Step 2:If the No-IP option is not available, update your Linksys router’s firmware and then select it.
  • Step 3:Fill the User Name, No-IP password, and Hostname text fields, as discussed above.
  • Step 4:After filling the above-mentioned text fields, click the Apply button followed by OK.
  • Step 5:Now, check if your hostname is able to receive the update.
  • Step 6:To do that, sign in to your No-IP.com account using the credentials.
  • Step 7:Click the Dynamic DNS option. 
  • Step 8:Locate your hostname address and click the Modify button available beside it.
  • Step 9:Enter the value in the given field.
  • Step 10:Click the Update Hostname button.
  • Step 11:To finish the update process, log out of your No-IP account and restart your router.
  • Step 12:Once your router restarts, re-sign into your No-IP account and go to the Dynamic DNS management page.
  • Step 13:If the status shows the current public IP address, then it means the DDNS is working properly.
  • Step 14:If not, click the Call button available on this screen to fix it.
